In all of our years of experience of giving food tours in Oaxaca, one of the common comments we receive from our clients is about all the graffiti and stencil art spread around Oaxaca City and its outskirts. The contrast with the colorful house facades and the brightness of the food and the textiles is outstanding. We always say that those expressions are also part of Oaxaca and its culture. We cannot separate the food from the people who cook it, from the people who harvest it. It would be irresponsible for us to do so.

That’s why our tours have a conscious discussion of the social and cultural issues that have been happening here from a local perspective. We do our best to stay informed about issues like gentrification, but we are also experiencing it firsthand, along with our communities. Everything is political, and so is food. It could sound contradictory to work on tourism while criticizing and challenging the industry and the constant impacts and ramifications on our daily lives. For us is a way of hustling and making ends meet in a limited economy like the one in Oaxaca.

We also believe in building bridges. We understand that we need to keep building community here in Oaxaca, and one of the best ways of doing it is while we share the table and delicious food. We are also interested in your perspective and thoughts, our communities around the country and the world are more connected than we could think.
